Vitamin E for menopausal skin is one of the great quiet workhorses of natural formulation. Listed on labels as tocopherol, it is a fat-soluble antioxidant that is already present in the skin's own barrier, and it does two jobs at once in a Philogeni formula: it helps protect the precious oils from going off, and it helps defend the skin from oxidative stress.
Two jobs, one antioxidant
An anhydrous, oil-rich formula lives and dies by the freshness of its lipids, and oils oxidise over time. Vitamin E is the natural guardian against that: as an antioxidant, it helps slow the oxidation of the oils it sits among, protecting the integrity of the whole blend without synthetic preservatives. The same antioxidant action then benefits the skin, helping to neutralise the free radicals generated by UV and pollution. It is a rare ingredient that cares for both the product and the person using it.
The chemistry
Vitamin E is a family of fat-soluble compounds, the tocopherols and tocotrienols, of which alpha-tocopherol is the most active in skin. It is naturally concentrated in many of the oils we already use, sunflower, sea buckthorn and marula among them, so it is both an added ingredient and a native part of our botanical lipids. As a lipid-soluble antioxidant, it integrates naturally into the skin's own barrier lipids.
What vitamin E does for skin
- Antioxidant defence: helps neutralise the free radicals of environmental stress.
- Protects the barrier lipids: a skin-identical antioxidant that works within the lipid layer.
- Keeps the formula fresh: helps protect the oils from oxidation, naturally.
- Works in synergy: partners with other antioxidants such as vitamin C and CoQ10.
Where it comes from
The vitamin E we use is derived from plant sources, typically non-GMO sunflower or other vegetable oils, in keeping with our fully plant-based approach. Because it is naturally abundant in several of our botanical oils, it is an ingredient that feels less like an addition and more like a concentration of something the blend already contains.
What the research shows
Vitamin E is one of the most studied antioxidants in skin science. Reviews describe alpha-tocopherol as the major lipid-soluble antioxidant in the skin's barrier, where it helps protect against oxidative and UV-induced damage, and note its role alongside other skin lipids and antioxidants (tocotrienol and squalene review, 2024; squalene and related compounds review, Molecules). We present vitamin E as an antioxidant that protects both the formula and the skin, on that basis.

Common questions
What does vitamin E do for skin?
It is a fat-soluble antioxidant that helps defend skin against the free radicals of environmental stress, and it also helps keep the formula's oils fresh.
Is vitamin E a preservative?
Not in the traditional sense, but as an antioxidant it helps protect oils from oxidation, which is why it is valued in oil-rich, anhydrous formulas.
Is your vitamin E natural?
Yes. It is plant-derived, and it is also naturally present in several of our botanical oils.
